Photo exhibition-event, organized in cooperation with the University of Catania and INFN and sponsored by the City of Catania, dedicated to the first 60 years of the European Center for Nuclear Research.

Through about 60 photographs and several explanatory panels, visitors will have the opportunity to retrace the salient moments of the largest physics laboratory ever built Fundamental, from its foundation in 1954 until today with the implementation of the powerful LHC accelerator and his experiments. The inauguration scheduled for September 30 at 19:00 in University Square, will be preceded by a presentation of the exhibition, in the Aula Magna of the University Central Building, at 18:00. The opening night will take place in conjunction with the European Researchers' Night, which takes place simultaneously in over 250 European cities and sees Catania at the forefront, thanks to events organized by the National Laboratories of the South and from the Catania INFN. Besides the photo exhibition, the opening night will be attended in University Square, into the night, from the University of Catania and INFN, working for years in three of the six experiments present at the LHC: ALICE, CMS, author of the very important discovery of the Higgs boson, and LHCf. With simple words, examples and videos, researchers illustrate the importance of CERN and experiments that take place there and will answer visitors' curiosity, giving also one of the significant role that split the city of Catania plays in this crucial and highly advanced field of scientific research. It will be a unique opportunity to get to know and meet the CERN researchers working there for years, talk to them and find out what they do in practice to the company in an interactive and engaging way. The photo exhibition will then be open 1 to 10 October, on weekdays, from 9:00 to 20:00 in the cloister of the Central Building of the University of Catania.
