On 29 September we will celebrate the European Researchers' Night 2023. Catania is involved in the Sharper project.
Science returns to the streets to meet Catania residents of all ages, becoming the absolute protagonist of the European Researchers' Night - Sharper. Forty stands in Piazza Università, over 100 events including laboratories, demonstrations, quizzes, exhibitions, videos, shows and seminars in the 'heart' of Catania and in other places of research: this is the extensive program of the international event dedicated to the dialogue between research and citizens, promoted again this year by a consortium of universities, research bodies, museums and associations and coordinated by the scientific communication company Psiquadro, as part of the European Commission's initiatives.
On Friday 29 September the Sharper event (SHAring Researchers’ Passion for Enhanced Roadmaps) will be held simultaneously in the cities of Ancona, Cagliari, Camerino, Catania, Genoa, L'Aquila, Macerata, Nuoro, Palermo, Pavia, Perugia, Sassari, Terni and Trieste – linked to each other by a virtual 'marathon' that will be held within 24 hours – with the aim of telling the passion, discoveries and challenges of researchers from all over Europe through exhibitions, shows, concerts , games, conferences and hundreds of other initiatives aimed at the general public. And as per tradition, Catania also participates in the initiative with a rich program for an audience of all ages, focused on interdisciplinarity and challenges for the future, which ranges from the frontier themes of basic research to technological applications in the most disparate fields, with particular attention to sustainability, the fight against climate change, renewable energy, health and safety.
The protagonist of the Research Night will also be the CSFNSM which will be present at Città della Scienza, where the official event will open, from 4.30pm to 8pm, with two workshops also suitable for the little ones: "Turn on Sharper's owl" and "Let's protect the environment by learning about it".
From 6.00 pm the stands will be active in Piazza Università and at 9.00 pm the show, co-organized by the University of Catania and the Sicilian Center for Nuclear Physics and Structure of Matter, La Forza Nascosta, dedicated to four lesser-known but fundamental female scientists for their contribution to physics research in the 20th century.
