The CSFNSM protagonist through its ex-scholarship holders of the award ceremony of the Grimaldi Prize 2019 for the "best work in Physics produced in the five-year period 2014-2018 in one of the Sicilian Universities or in Public Research Centers operating in Sicily"
The 2019 edition of the prestigious award, which is held every five years and was decided by a testamentary bequest by prof. Giovan Pietro Grimaldi, Italian physicist and academic, rector of the University of Catania from 1905 to 1908, was assigned, Friday November 29th in the splendid setting of the Palazzo Grimaldi in Modica, ex aequo to the papers “Coherent backscattering of Raman light”, presented by Dr. Barbara Fazio and Dr. Alessia Irrera, “Modulated phases of graphene quantum Hall polariton fluids”, presented by Dr. Francesco M. D. Pellegrino, “An increase in the 12C + 12C fusion rate from resonances at astrophysical energies”, presented by Aurora Tumino.
The work of Dr. Fazio and Irrera as well as that of Dr. Pellegrino was supported by the Sicilian Center for Nuclear Physics and Structure of Matter.
Dr. Pellegrino was also a fellow of the CSFNSM as well as Prof. Tumino.
The Grimaldi 2019 Award was assigned to the winners by the Rector of the University of Catania, prof. Francesco Priolo, member of law of the Grimaldi Foundation, in the presence of the president of the Gioenia Academy of Natural Sciences of Catania, prof. Mario Alberghina, of the president of the Grimaldi Foundation, avv. Filippo Pasqualetto, and the Mayor of Modica, Ignazio Abbate.
