The CSFNSM constantly monitors the rate of environmental radioactivity related to the presence of radon in air and water and manages, with its own staff and staff of outside companies, a laboratory of environmental physics with advanced equipment for measuring environmental radioactivity, electromagnetic and noise pollution.
Objectives : To know concentrations of radon, seismic precursor carcinogenic gas, in the Etnean area, affected by intense seismic-tectonic activity with surface faulting (in the only town of Acireale fewer than 18 seismogenic faults have been identified), and studying the effects of that gas on human health.
