Physical methods for dating Cultural Heritage
The CSFNSM traditionally conducts an activity on dating of artifacts and monuments, using methods based on the thermoluminescence effect.
In particular the dating aim is to determine time of construction and/or of interventions of historical buildings. The thermoluminescence method allows it, applied on clay bricks from the building, assuming negligible the time between their manufacture and placement in the building. In order to reconstruct properly the artifact date, it is necessary to estimate the annual dose of natural radiation in its environment. The measured luminescence is in fact proportional to the product of the annual dose by the number of years.
Il CSFNSM ha una tradizionale attività nel campo della datazione di reperti e di monimenti utilizzando metodi basati sull'effetto di termoluminescenza.
