Like every year, on the last Friday of September back the Notte Europea dei Ricercatori, Europe's largest event dedicated to scientific and technological research. Catania is one of 250 European cities that joined the initiative.

La Notte Europea dei Ricercatori is an initiative promoted and co-financed by the European Commission, within the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation HORIZON 2020.
The initiative was created with the objective to bring the general public beyond the research community, and in particular to the figure of the researcher, showing that "the researcher is an ordinary person doing extraordinary things", helping to increase the citizens' awareness of the importance which now covers the scientific research for cultural development, social and economic society.

In Catania the Notte Europea dei RicercatoriIt is organized by the National Laboratories of the South and from the Catania INFN. The event will be held simultaneously at the port of Catania and the local Southern National Laboratories.

On the occasion of Notte Europea dei Ricercatori, Furthermore, the Nuclear Physics Sicilian Center and Structure of Matter inaugurate the exhibition CERN sotto il Vulcano.

The project coordinated by Frascati Scienza is organized in collaboration with the Region of Lazio, the Municipality of Frascati, ASI, CNR-ARTOV, ENEA, ESA-ESRIN, INAF, INFN, INGV, CINECA, GARR, ISPRA, CREA, Sardegna Ricerche, with Wisdom University of Rome, University of Rome "Tor Vergata", and Roma Tre University, University LUMSA of Rome and Palermo, Cagliari University, University of Cassino, University of Parma, University of Sassari, University of Modena and Reggio Studies Emilia. The project is funded by the European Commission under the call MSCA-NIGHT-2016/2017 (Grant Agreement No. 722952).
