It was inaugurated tonight CERN sotto il Vulcano, photo exhibition-event, organized by the Center Siciliano Nuclear Physics in collaboration with the University of Catania and INFN and sponsored by the City of Catania, dedicated to the first sixty years of CERN life and the role that physics plays Catania in this center of excellence.

The opening ceremony in University Square was preceded by a presentation-conference of the Central Palace in the Aula Magna of the University Press, during which the Rector, Prof. Giacomo Pignataro,followed by the Director of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Prof. Valerio Pirronello, and the Directors of INFN Catania, Prof. Antonio Insolia, and Southern National Laboratories, Dr. Giacomo Cuttone, gave their farewell address. To conclude the event, the Director of the Sicilian Center for Nuclear Physics and Structure of Matter, explained to the participants the reasons for the shows and the important contribution of physics at CERN Catania. 

The presentation was followed by the cutting of the ribbon, with two godfathers of exception: the Rector and On. Giuseppe Berretta.

CERN sotto il Vulcano It opens the long evening of events organized as part of the European Researchers' Night, to learn and discover the physical to the town of Catania.

The exhibition CERN sotto il Vulcano, It will continue, from 1 to 10 October, in the Cloister of the Central Hall and will be open, free of charge, on weekdays, from 9:00 to 20:00.
